" Me "

People ask me all the time “what do you want to be when you grow up?” It’s almost like the moment I graduate college or move out, is the moment that I get to decided whatever I want to do with myself. A lot of people expect the generic response, like “a nurse” or “a teacher” but when is the moment you actually “grow up?” Is it when you graduate, or when you get a place of your own? The day you turn 18 and become legal? My question is, why not ask what you want to be right then, in that very moment? Ask questions about what kind of person they want to be. Ask what their dreams are, ask what their passions are. If you really want to get to know someone are these not better questions? I look back on the past 2 years of my life and so many of my goals and my ideas of what I want to be when I “grow up” have changed. To be completely honest, I’m a completely different person. My opinions have changed, and I’ve learned so much about life, people and how the world works. Based on this, how on earth am I supposed to know what I want to do with the rest of my life when so much has changed just recently? I know that all of this change is just part of being a teenager, and that some day it’s going to slow down and level out, but the reality is, in this very moment, I’m not in a great position to really decide on what I want my life to shape out like. Now don’t get me wrong, I think having goals and aspirations is important, but some people simply don’t think about what they’re asking...
